The new paladin system is all about options!
Not only will you be able to recruit more paladins, but you will be able to level them up and specialize them for your needs on the battlefield as well as your village! This will benefit your way of playing and help you build your empire, so make sure to choose a good strategy for your paladins!
The Paladin
You start with 1 paladin, though as soon as your empire starts to grow you can own up to 10 Paladins. For each set of villages you have you can unlock a new paladin slot.
You can recruit a new paladin at the following amounts of villages: 1 / 3 / 5 / 10 / 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 / 100 "http://i.imgur.com/Hp1veB9.png"
Each paladin can (& must) then be leveled up individually and then trained in 1 of each skill-tree. You will consume skill-books to do this.
Leveling
You can level up your paladin in 4 different ways, outlined below. The maximum level of the paladin is 30. Every time your Paladin reaches a new level you gain a skill book, you can use Skill books to increase the skills of your paladin. Note that you will only get 30 Skill books per paladin, so make sure to spread them well over the skill-trees! <img src="http://i.imgur.com/TMkYguC.png"
In the overview, there is an Experience bar showing how much XP is required for your current paladin to reach the next level. Your paladin earns Experience in several ways:
Attacking
A paladin can gain experience by personally leading an attacking army into battle. The amount of experience gained depends on the amount of defending troops defeated. Your paladin will not gain any experience from attacking yourself.
Defending
A paladin can gain experience by personally defending your villages. The amount of experience gained depends on the amount of attacking troops defeated. Your paladin will not gain any experience by defending against your own attacks.
Supporting
A paladin can gain experience by personally supporting other players' villages. The amount of experience gained depends on the time spent supporting, the total amount of your own troops at the supported village, and the amount of attacking troops defeated there. Experience is granted on a daily basis, when your paladin battles, and when the amount of your support changes. Your paladin will not gain any experience by defending against your own attacks.
Overseeing construction
A paladin can oversee construction of buildings in your own villages. Experience is awarded if he was there when the construction started and stayed until the construction was completed. The amount of experience gained depends on the cost of the building.
Train for XP
A paladin can undergo special training to gain experience points. While training, a paladin is unavailable for battle and grants no bonuses. If his home is conquered while training, he dies and will not receive the benefit his was training for.

You will consume Skill books by upgrading your skill tree. You can use skill books in two different ways: by clicking on a tier in your skill tree, or by clicking on the skill book you want to use in your inventory.
Respecializing
You can respecialize your paladin. This will return all spent Skill books& skill points and you will be able to allocate them again accordingly. This will however cost you some premium points, so it's better to choose a good strategy from the beginning!
Relocating
You can relocate your paladin to another village if this village has a statue and enough room in the farm. Relocating takes a specific amount of time. Once relocated, all effects that this Paladin carries will be activated on his new home.
Reviving
If your paladin dies in combat you can revive it in the statue, it takes 6 hours at world speed 1. This time can be halved by using premium points. When your paladin has died, all the effects the paladin has will die with him. So protect him well!
